In the second week of croquet competition after the lockdown, croquet play was limited due to wet weather. Four matches of golf croquet were completed on Monday morning and one game of association croquet was completed on Saturday morning. Play on Thursday was impossible due to the waterlogged nature of the greens. Nevertheless, some high quality play was on show whereby Deb McKellar and Jean Phillips were the leading players in golf croquet and Pauline Wilcock returning after the break to win in association croquet.
Golf Croquet
In the four matches of golf croquet last Monday the scores were close and in the first match Lesley Miles scored a hoop with a magnificent jump shot. Vi Kelleher continued her good first time of croquet play from last week with an excellent second showing. The results of the matches were:
Game 1 - Deb McKellar and Leslie Miles 7 def Vi Kelleher and Sally McGourty 5. Game 2 - Jean Phillips 7 def Christine Stent 6. Game 3 - Deb McKellar 7 def Lesley Miles 3. Game 4 - Jean Phillips and Sally McGourty 7 def Christine Stent and Vi Kelleher 5.
Association Croquet
On the morning of last Saturday the one match of the regular competition of association croquet was a cracking game in muggy conditions. Len Favier was pitted against Pauline Wilcock and the scoring was tightly even throughout. Eventually when the time limit was reached scores were even on 18 each. Hence play was extended by 30 minutes during which time Pauline Wilcock was able to finally out-finesse Len Favier and go on to win 26 points to 19 points just before spots of rain began to fall.

Social bowls was called off on October 12 due to rain, some members still enjoyed being able to 'catch up' again.
Club triples final started last Thursday in overcast conditions which progressed to a downpour and play was discontinued after 11 ends and scores level at eight all.
Sunday proved to be perfect for bowls and saw Julie Smith (sub for Janet Murphy), Sandra Breust and Gail Howe (skip) continue the match against Marg Naylor, Pam Grant and Vicki Herman (skip).
Vicki's team got away to a good start and were able to maintain their advantage despite Gail's team winning the last three ends in a strong finish.
Congratulations to Margaret, Pam and Vicki, Club Triples Champions for 2021, best wishes to runners up Julie, Sandra and Gail.

Social Bowls Winners' Circle
After being washed out on Wednesday and we had 18 bowlers making up three rinks of triples. Winners were decided by Lucky Rinks and this week the winners were Tiger Fryer, John Voytas and Gary Murane (skip) who were down seven to nine after 11 ends before picking up some good ends late to take their match 25 to 17 against Peter Hawker, Mick Cavic and Dennis Maggs (skip).
Second place went to Terry Lewis, John Redman and Peter Murton (skip) who were ahead 14 to six after 11 ends and picked up five ends in a row to draw clear for a 32 to 16 win against Warren Bender, Neville Cork and John Downie (skip).
Thank you to Rapley's Quality Meat, Narooma Plaza, for their continued support.
On Saturday winners were decided by Lucky Rinks with the money going to Jay Guernsey and Col Armstrong (skip) who had a great match, leading 16 to 10 after 13 ends and continued that form for a 25 to 13 win against Graham Cummins and Tony Palmer (skip).
Second prize went to Peter Dillon and Greg Ryan (skip) who were down eight to 12 after 13 ends before finishing strongly for a 26 to 22 win against Dennis Maggs (skip).
On Sunday we had 30 bowlers keen to be out to have an enjoyable game of bowls. Winners, decided by Lucky Rinks, were Sue Waldock, Pam Grant and Terry Lewis (skip) who were on fire to lead all the way for a good win against Ella Breust, Pieter Vos and Bruce Rapkins (skip).
Second place went to Sue Sansom, Sue Wales and Ken Burrows (skip) who led 13 to nine after 13 ends before finishing strongly for a 18 to 10 win against Rob McIntyre, Greg Maloney and Dawn Kenny (skip).
Club Triples Championship
There were two Triples Championship played on Sunday. Les Waldock, Peter Dillon and Greg Ryan (skip) played Graham Cummins, Dennis Maggs and Garry Carberry (skip). In a very tight game early, Garry's team led seven to five after seven ends but Greg's team came back to take the lead to be in front 14 to 12 after 16 ends. Les, Peter and Greg won the next three ends to draw away to a 20 to 12 lead and despite a strong response from Graham, Dennis and Garry, Greg's team took the match 22 to 18.
In the other match there was a real neck and neck match between Keith Pickett, Matt Dunn and John Breust (skip) and Mick Cavic, John Redman and Neville Butt (skip). In a very close contest there was never any more than four shots advantage in the game and on the 21st end Neville's team were down by two, but held three shots, before John Breust killed the end. On the replay John's team picked up two shots for a 26 to 22 win in a most entertaining match.

Monday's weather could not have been better for the 30 bowlers pencilled in by Adam's boy Ken who had secret ends deciding the winners on nine in Chris Silver-Jones, Shark Finn and our lone Macedonian Illya from the runners-up on seven, after countback, in John Commie-Bloke, Darryl Badrim and Towelling Lewis. No one scored a resting toucher nor was the $172 jackpot won while the lucky losers on rink 2 were Big John Oarley, Door Houston and Browny. John Blue-boy, Terry Elle, Punter Alan and Leigh Spoon-in-him contributed to the wrong bias jar while the winning raffle tickets sold by Browny went to Terry (again), Snoopy and Clive KV.
Once again Thursday's weather after showers early which obviously kept our numbers down, it looked good for a fine afternoon of bowls for the 16 bowlers rounded up by Shark Finn but half-time was declared early after eight ends thankfully only for a short shower our shortened 18 ends game was completed. Secret ends decided the winners on nine and after a protracted countback, those who lost, won in Hi-ain't Mac or Greg, Mayoress Olwyn and Gram-back Carpenter. Sportsman Pete scored the only resting toucher and the $344 jackpot didn't go off. The wrong bias sinner of the day was the Spade, twice, with the Mayoress selling the raffle tickets to winners including Knud-back's son Terry, Lois and naturally herself. Great to hear our president Chef Keith is out of hospital and will be back to bowls next week.
Clear skies and cool breezes provided a good night for the twilight bowlers which saw the winners in Sienna Don and Who Over-rod. We have been very fortunate to have 3x$10 hat-drawn bowlers with the Southern Euro Plumbing draw going to J Jumper, MacFarlane Painting draw going to Lorraine Happy-daughter and the Bee-Gee's draw going to Pommie Tracey. Next week, all double-vaxed players over the age of 12, get yourselves signed-in by Friday 4.45pm for a 5.30 start of two-hours of fun, pairs bowls with prizes for winners and runners-up, depending on numbers and for the first resting toucher.
The quarter-final round of the mixed pairs championship saw, due to more urgent reasons like a hip-op and a sailor without a punch, Gram-back Ponder and Sport-star Pete forfeit to Kath Whiskey-Anne and Buzz Saw and Val and Brian four-footed to Pat Woof-sheep and B-Harold Arminter.
Despite leading early the Sienna couple Gram and Nod-back they let Gram-back Joiner and the Macedonian Illya score on 13 of the next 16 ends to build up and unbeatable score of 24 even before an eight-shot final two ends to have them finishing on 15 after 20 ends. The other game had the Snah-back N couple of Chris and Finn finishing on top of their opponents in Mayoress Olwyn and Garry L-Rentacar after a fairly even game equalising three times up to the 13th end before Chris and Finn shot away to win 17/12 at the 21st end.
Please note that the men's 100-up comp sign-on sheet is out for all interesting players.
