Call for focus on 'core functions'
I should like to thank SHASA (whatever that stands for) for putting in my letter box a leaflet which identifies the thre groups of candidates for whom I should not be voting in the coming council elections.
We need councillors who are focused on the core functions of a shire council, such as fixing the roads and efficiently disposing of our waste: not wasting ratepayers' money pointless environmental gestures.

Choose who you vote for 'very carefully'
Many of the shire's residents and ratepayers may not be aware that councillor elections in the Eurobodalla Shire are occurring and will be held on December 4 - just a few weeks off.
Those elected as the people's representatives in September 2016, really were a poor performing bunch, a real public disappointment. Leadership was lacking.
They seemed to not want to accept they were elected, in good faith by the shire's residents, ratepayers and voters to communicate and respond to all community concern issues.
Often they wouldn't respond to correspondence, in any meaningful way. One even blocking email correspondence.
Direct public involvement with them becoming, virtually non-existent, obsolete, even though it's the public who supply the resourses that allows the council to function.
Editor you are correct in advising to choose who we vote for carefully, very carefully, are the words to be thought about!

We can have a voice
A superb article by Community Services South Coast program manager, Belle Grossetti in letters to the editor of October 22.
She writes, "At the most essential level, we want to see an Australia where everyone has access to the necessities of life, like food, medicine and a safe and secure home".
As local elections take place on December 4 residents of Eurobodalla Shire have the opportunity to have their say.
It is clear that the Eurobodalla needs an increase in affordable and social housing, and access to a Level 4 hospital.
It is also clear that the shire needs a council that has a genuine meaningful relationship with its residents, and transparency in its decisions and actions.
As we have gone through the COVID pandemic, and as world leaders met in Glasgow, we see that globally, nationally and locally, where there is the will there is a way.
On December 4, your vote is your voice. Lead candidate for the Greens, Alison Worthington, brings great initiative to ways that the council can play an active role in solutions to our housing crisis and the many other important issues affecting our beautiful shire.
