Announced yesterday as part of a $500m investment in health across the state, the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital has now received $260m in funding.
Outgoing Bega MP Andrew Constance said the extra funding would guarantee the new hospital would open as a Level 4.
"A Level 4 hospital is going to be delivered, and the key driver behind that is an intensive care unit," he said.
"We can confirm an eight-bed ICU in the new hospital - we've listened to the community and responded accordingly.
"Master planning is now underway, and this funding compares to the South East Regional Hospital.
"This was my last important job as State Member for Bega, and to the community, I say 'well done'."
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the funding would give the hospital the "facilities and services that need to be provided".
"We're delivering an enhanced maternity unit, and the bed numbers will go up from about 111 to 128," he said.
"On top of that we'll also have a new MRI, so the trips to Canberra (for that purpose) will stop.
"This will be an amazing new facility, and I can't wait for it to be built."
The announcement came on a weekend where the community rallied in Moruya for a Level 4 Hospital.
The "Open the Door with Level 4" rally, organised by Dr Michael Holland and Mylene and Fitzroy Boulting, was held on Saturday morning at the Rotunda at Riverside Park and ended with a march across the Moruya Bridge.
