During Thursday a low pressure system will likely form along the southern and central coast. This has the potential to cause heavy rainfall and riverine flooding along the NSW South Coast, Snowy and Upper Murray and Mitta Mitta Rivers from Thursday.
Catchments are wet following persistent and recurring rainfall in recent weeks.
The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed from Wednesday.
Catchments south of Sydney that are likely to be affected by minor flooding include:
Moruya and Deua Rivers, Tuross River, Bega River, Towamba River and Snowy River
This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
Flood Warnings will be issued if the "Minor Flood" level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. Severe Weather Warnings will be issued or updated if very heavy rain is forecast or observed.
What you can do now
Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding that could impact local roads, creeks and recreational areas. People in areas that may be impacted by flooding should prepare their properties and homes and:
- Stay up to date with information. Listen to flood warnings and follow the advice on how to protect yourself, family and property.
- Consider collecting essential items in a waterproof bag: food, water, warm clothes, medications, valuables, important documents, toys for children in case you need to leave.
- Keep your pets close by, always know where they are.
- Check on your family, friends and neighbours and share this information
