Operation Vitreus arrest 990 people in sweeping drug raids

Operation Vitreus, a joint initiative between state and territory police and national law enforcement, executed 403 search warrants between September 11 to 15.

Across Australia 814 kilograms of methylamphetamine were allegedly seized,182 kilograms of MDMA and 185 kilograms of cannabis, cocaine, heroin and other drugs.

"Almost [$500 million] worth of illicit drugs were seized in this country last week alone. Whilst an incredible result, it aptly highlights the seemingly insatiable demand there is in Australia for illicit substances," Detective acting superintendent Dan Ryan said.

"Drug trafficking impacts us all - whether it be the associated crime in our local communities, or road trauma, family violence, homicides and shootings," he said.

Police released information on some of the arrest highlights from around the country.

A 27- year-old Greenvale man was charged with firearm offences and trafficking a commercial quantity of MDMA after police seized 14 kilograms of MDMA, pill presses, stacks of cash, four guns and ammunition.

Police also seized two Rolex watches and three cars, with a combined value of $300,000, that were believed to be the proceeds of crime.

Police allegedly found 27 kilograms of methylamphetamine buried in bushland around the Perth suburb Dianella and 60 kilometres south of the city in Stake Hill.

A 30-year-old man with links to an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang was charged with a number of serious drug offences.

A "dial-a-dealer" syndicate was targeted by NSW Police in the Operation Vitreus' week of action.

Police seized two kilograms of cocaine, around $170,000 in cash, 20 litres of suspected GBL, a revolver, eight cars, stolen registration plates and drug manufacturing supplies in raids on six Sydney properties.

A 31-year-old woman and four men, aged 19, 24, 26 and 44, were charged with drug, firearm and criminal organisation offences.
