Volunteers galore at Narooma SLSC Australia Day Breakfast on the Beach

That is because so many of them volunteer with the Rural Fire Service (RFS), Narooma Marine Rescue, Narooma Lions and the SLSC.

As usual members of the Narooma Lions Club donned aprons to cook eggs, bacon and sausages on the barbecue.

Lions members Steven Worker and Gillian Kearney both also volunteer with Marina Rescue Narooma.

Ms Kearney was also a member of the surf life saving club in the past.

"It was the best eight years," she said.

Her husband, Peter Kearney, is in the RFS and just back from Brisbane working on air tankers so they are ready to go.

There were several life members of the SLSC enjoying the day including Glenn and Belinda Bywater, Whitey and Max Young.

The Bywaters have had three children through the club.

The eldest is 30 while Asher turns 14 next month and it seems he might be another life member.

"I will probably stay in surf rescue but I don't know if I will be here in Narooma," Asher said.

Steve Benic was keen to show off the club's new side by side vehicle which they received six weeks ago thanks to a "very generous" donation by Justin Hemmes' Merivale Group.

They use it tow their equipment, move up and down the beach to do rescues and at carnivals.

Any profits from the breakfast will go towards the club, supplementing the proceeds from its very successful rubber duck race on New Year's Day.

SLSC president Brendan O'Mahony said they are raising funds to get the clubhouse roof replaced as it leaks and has no sarking or insulation.

They have applied for a grant and will find out in the next few months if they were successful.

The club is always looking for volunteers.

"It isn't like the old days when you had to be able to swim a certain distance in a certain time," Mr O'Mahony said.

"Do you have a skill that can transfer into the club?

"There are lots of opportunities to join and be part of the club."
