The show, Final Cut, will features the work of highly respected local artist Craig Cameron, winner of the Bega Valley Art Awards 2008.
The BVRG patronage of the ANU EASS program forms part of a strategic partnership between the BVRG and the ANU School of Art – the closest tertiary art institution to the region.
The BVRG became an EASS Patron in 2009 and Harry Townsend is the second recipient of the award. He has strong ties with the area, and as a young graduate will encourage aspiring nascent artists in the Shire.
“Harry’s a perfect role model for up and coming young students,” said BVRG Curator Megan Bottari. “We have high visitation from Bega High School particularly and it’s a great demonstration of the possibilities of ongoing visual art practice well beyond school.”
“We’re also very pleased to be exhibiting a substantial body of work by Craig Cameron, who has twice been a finalist in the FSC Living Artist Program.”
Describing his work as “Jackson Pollock meets Mike Parr”, Ms Bottari said that Cameron had a strong, intensely individual practice that was deserving of far greater public exposure.
Guest speaker for the exhibition opening on April 20 was Helen Maxwell; curator, former gallerist and legendary fixture on the Canberra Art scene.
First Cut runs until May 26. All welcome, entry free.
