Troy's wife Melissa told everyone about Troy’s ordeal and explained how hard it has been to get treatment or even a diagnosis for Lyme disease in Australia.
The evening was organised in an effort to raise funds to assist in Troy’s treatment scheduled to begin in two weeks’ time in Bali.
Close to $10,000 was raised through auctions and raffles.
Combined with online donations through Troy Stever Lyme Disease Fund Facebook page the funds raised to date total $22,000.
Good friend of the Stever family, Frances Held, has been integral to the fundraising efforts and is hoping to achieve the goal of $30,000.
“We will be holding an online auction with major donations next week via Ebay and our Facebook page for interstate people to jump on board and help,” Frances said.
“We are now a charity with an ABN number so anyone wanting to donate and claim for tax purposes can get tax deductable receipts.”
There are still over 50 collection tins around Tilba, Narooma, Bodalla, Moruya and Tuross and businesses including the Woolworth’s supermarket making it simple for people to donate.
There is a raffle at Southfield Pharmacy for a dinner for two at The Whale and people can donate to the Troy Stever Lyme Disease Fund at the Commonwealth Bank, BSB 062652, Account 10142705.
Frances says there are so many wonderful businesses and people who have donated cash and prizes and whose generosity is greatly appreciated.
Master of ceremonies, Ben Bate was a star at the fundraiser.
“And thanks also to all those who listened to Melissa Stevers interview on ABC radio and made cash donations,” Frances said.
“We also want to thank raffle sellers, people working behind the scenes, Kylie from Kys Karaoke in Tuross for donating her free services on the night, Club Narooma for venue and Nibblez @ Narooma for donating all the nibblies on the night,” she said.
Unclaimed raffle prizes can be collected from Funki Fadz.
