THE Southern NSW Street Luge Racers on the weekend competed at the inaugural Cherry Bomb street luge event at Mt Gladstone in Cooma.

Racer Ken Jacobs of Bermagui said it was a challenging track with some technical corners.
The inaugural event was set up to encourage new riders and pop their cherries, hence the “Cherry” in the name, with a full day of practice and learning on Saturday before racing on Sunday.
All riders had a great day of racing the Southerners came in well with Australian champion Nic McKirdy of Batemans Bay in second, Bill Salmon in third, Chris “Critta” Markwort in 13th and Ken 18th in the round robin.
Ken’s wife Jo Jacobs was best student on the training day.
In the finals, Bill Salmon came fourth while Nic McKirdy was unlucky and had a crash in the final.
The Southern NSW Street Luge Racers group is a loose affiliation of street lugers from the Far South Coast including several from Bermagui and Narooma.
