He and his dog Jojo are several months into “The Fatman’s Great Aussie Trek” walking the long road to raise money for cancer research and obesity prevention.
The 47 year old hopes to lose 50kg on his journey but it’s been hard on him, his dog and his cart.
Jojo has also had to rest several times as her pads have copped a beating while the front wheel of his cart broke only a few days into the journey, requiring a replacement.
He left Geelong back in February and by last Wednesday afternoon he was crossing the Wallaga Lake causeway on his way to Narooma and the Dalmeny campground, where he reckoned he was going to take a few days off to rest his shin splints, and to do some fishing.
You can follow the Fatman and Jojo on his blog at fatmansgreataussietrek.blogspot.com
It was here that he wrote: “When it was time to bid Tathra farewell, I took 4 days (3 nights) to cover a distance of 42km to Bermagui, a distance I could have covered in 2-3 days had I been fit.”
On their way up the East Coast, the pair have camped on the roadside and also occasionally been put up by generous people along the way as was the case in Tathra where a campground invited him in to rest up a few days.
