This was the 18th annual Far South Coast Woodies exhibition also known as the South Coast Regional Exhibition of Woodwork (SCREW).
There were a record 37 entries in the SCREW woodworking competition.
A fine but cold Saturday morning greeted the members and with an official start time scheduled for 10am a brisk trade was already in progress at 9.30am, and the attendance on this first day was beyond expectations.
State Member Andrew Constance had to cancel his agreement to open the show due to pressing work-related commitments and Eurobodalla Shire councillor Danielle Brice graciously agreed to open the show instead.
The results of the woodworking competition were as follows:
Category 1 TURNING
Experienced: Paul Healy, runner-up Len Newman
Novice: Nick Facchetti (school student)
Category 2 TOYS & GAMES
Experienced: Jim Jackman, runner-up Len Newman
Novice: Garrard Muldoon, runner-up Garrard Muldoon
Category 3 FURNITURE
Experienced: Declan Wood
Novice: Alexander Krantz (school student), runner-up Malcolm McDonald
Category 4 BOXMAKING
Experienced: Paul Croese, runner-up Len Newman
Novice: Peter McDowell, runner-up Keith Hartas
Category 5 FUNCTIONAL ITEMS
Experienced: Des Jeffrey, runner-up Warren Randall
Novice: Helmut Delrieux, runner-up David Schmidt
BEST IN SHOW: Helmut Delrieux for his wooden tool box
The Visitors Choice award went to the Celtic knot rolling pin by Len Newman, which featured aircraft ply and jarrah inlaid into American oak with jarrah handles.
Raffle winners were Rachel (T1 prize) and Bruce Frost (T2 prize) and the Woodies are indebted to Masters Canberra Store for the donation of both.
Third went to N. Lyons who won the step stool made and donated by the Narooma Woodies.
