Rotarians Chris O’Brien and Angie Ulrichsen will approach strategically placed businesses to see if they are interested.
“This project has involved several groups in our community,” Narooma Chamber of Commerce president Orit Karny-Winters said.
“It’s the result of a brainstorming session with Rob Atkinson of Narooma Men’s Shed about how we could improve Narooma’s main street decorations over the Christmas holidays.”
Narooma High School art students took part in a design competition with Georgia Poyner coming up with the winning design of a whale wearing a Christmas hat.
Men’s Shed members are making them, Rotary is organising rental, and they will be available in early November.
Narooma Rotary president Charmaine White is delighted with the reach of the project and with Rotary’s involvement.
The whales should be displayed from early November until the end of January.
They come in two sizes.
* The larger one is designed for the roofs of businesses, check out one on the Men’s Shed fence on Glasshouse Rocks Road. Cost is $180 rental November to January.
* The smaller one would be suitable for inside window displays. Cost is $120 for the same period.
Both can also be erected as a free standing sign.
Numbers this year are limited, but if you miss out you can place an order for next year.
Installation can be arranged by the Men’s Shed or Rural Fire Service volunteers for a donation, or you can do it yourself.
Proceeds from the Christmas whales will go to Narooma Men’s Shed and Narooma Rotary to be used in projects in the local area.
