Within two weeks of opening, the 12 kennels and three cat pens were fully booked.
The demand for boarding kennels was high and over the next year the Ferguson’s expanded the business to board up to 25 dogs and 10 cats.
“This size is adequate for most of the year, but at Easter and at Christmas, we could easily quadruple the size!” Heather Ferguson said.
The business has sustained the family over the last 25 years, but the time has come to call it a day and the Ferguson’s are planning to retire on June 30, this year.
“We have developed Paradise Point Pet Lodge into a totally viable business, and unlike some businesses in Narooma which rely heavily upon the tourist season, the kennels flourish all year round, as the majority of our custom comes from local residents,” Heather said.
Although Heather and Jeremy are retiring they are not moving and plan to close Paradise Pet Lodge down.
“We hold our canine/feline/human customers in high esteem and apologise for any inconvenience our closing may cause,” Heather said.
The Ferguson’s are hoping that there is an innovative person out there that will see the need for pet accommodation in Narooma.
“We would like to see some enterprising person build a new boarding facility somewhere in the Narooma region as it is such an excellent business opportunity, as well as providing an important service, with a guaranteed clientele all year round,” Heather said.
“We sincerely hope that the Eurobodalla Shire Council will give their full support to this enterprise.
“We can be available to give advice based on our years of experience, and our client database can also be made available,” the Ferguson’s said.
