MOBILE phone users in Bermagui can now access lightning fast downloads with Telstra switching on 4G LTE mobile coverage, which now reaches 85 per cent of the Australian population.
4G meanwhile was rolled out in Batemans Bay in time for the busy Christmas season, while Telstra tells us Narooma’s 4G is due in the next a few weeks.
Telstra Country Wide area general manager for Southern NSW & ACT, Chris Taylor, said the new 4G coverage gave locals in Bermagui mobile broadband speeds as fast as those in capital cities.
The speedy new service makes streaming movies, downloading music and internet browsing much quicker when on the go with typical downloads speeds of between 2- 50 megabits per second.
Actual customer speeds may vary, of course, depending on a range of factors such as distance from the base station, local conditions, and the user’s device.
The new 4G network also took pressure off the existing 3G network as it became overloaded with usage in locations such as Batemans Bay over the holidays.
“Our 4G network coverage provides a reach that is now four times that of any competitor. The additional speeds and network capacity Telstra 4G offers will really support both residents and local businesses in this area. The addition of 4G also benefits our 3G only customers as 3G network capacity is freed up as customers migrate their data traffic onto our 4G service” Mr Taylor said.
“Telstra 4G offers an exciting new era of communication and our customers can use their phones in new ways, offering a world of convenience and opening up access to smart new technologies to help keep them entertained at home and productive when on the road for work.
“The new 4G service will offer faster download and upload speeds – a real plus for anyone looking to send large files while they are on the move.”
Mr Taylor said in response to extraordinary customer demand for 4G services Telstra had grown its range of 4G devices.
“We now have 30 4G devices and we continue to collaborate with manufacturers around the world to ensure we can give our customers a great range of 4G devices now and into the future.”
With this expansion of the network complete for 2013, the focus in 2014 turns to preparing the network with even faster 4G LTE-Advanced technology and deploying new spectrum to add more network capacity, speed and reliability.
