WITH a big chance of the first round of footy (trial matches) being cancelled due to a week of torrential rain and the closure of the oval, the Narooma Junior Devils were delighted to get news late Friday that the oval had been reopened and all games were scheduled to go ahead on Saturday. Saturday was a beautiful warm sunny day, perfect for players and spectators.

While Moruya didn't send any of their mini teams to play, it didn't seem to bother the Narooma players. They had great fun playing against each other and it was a perfect opportunity for all new players to get familiar with the rules and general play of the game. The U7's were having such a great time; they played an extra 10 minute quarter.
The fact that they were trial matches didn't seem to detract the determination of the teams.
It didn't seem to bother the Narooma U10's who were playing on the big field for the first time. They showed no mercy winning 52-0.
The large U14s team showed great skill across the whole field only letting in one try and winning a massive 78-4.
The girls had some fresh faces among them, but that didn't seem to faze anyone, they won 50-0.
The new look U12s played really well despite losing 10-22, they never gave up and they will be a team to watch out for in the future. Well done boys for holding your heads up high and never giving up.
Finally Narooma has been able to put an U16s team back on the paddock.
The boys looked and played really well. With the first game done and dusted they can now iron out any problems and with a few more weeks of training before the official start of the season, this team will come out firing. They lost 22-6.
This Saturday the Narooma teams will be heading up to Bibbenluke for the annual start of the season carnival. The kids will get to play against teams from across Canberra as well. It's always a good day and well worth the drive. Times will be given out at training. Parents beware there is an entry fee on the day. This helps pay for the ribbons that are given out to all the players. We look forward to seeing you all there this Saturday.
