The new boat which is a 10 seater complements the club’s existing 20 seater boat and will allow Blue Water Dragons to take to the water with smaller crews.
It also means that Narooma’s dragon boat club is able to take out two boats when there is an overflow of keen paddlers.
Blue Water Dragons was able to secure their new boat thanks to quick thinking by club member, Kathryn Essex, who saw that a small number of the boats were on offer at a very good rate. The committee agreed that the offer was too good to pass up and the order was placed.
Kathryn said, “I knew that our members wanted a 10s boat, I saw the notice about the boats, hidden in the depths of a lengthy bulletin. We placed our order and because we were first in, we were able to choose our colour - blue (naturally!)”
Club members were on hand to move the new boat into its home but couldn’t have done it without the support of Paul “Butch” Butcher who made up the rollers and installed them with the help of club supporter, Wayne McMillan, who always puts his hand up to help the club when needed.
Both of Narooma’s boats are Champion racing boats which are considered the world’s best because of their lightness, speed and construction and are used in National and World Championship events.
The new purchase will make it easier for more people to try dragon boating and Blue Water Dragons is already planning to offer a second daytime paddling session.
