Matt Flapper came up frustratingly close in his bid to skip Australia to a bronze medal in the lawn bowls men’s triples on Monday night (AEST).
Wales took out the bronze medal battled 16-13.
Wales led 4-0 before Australia fought its way back to make the running 7-6 after seven ends.
This was the only time Flapper, Nathan Rice and Wayne Ruediger led.
Wales made its winning move with three shots in the 16th end to lead by five and there was no comeback for Australia, which had been unbeaten in sectional play.
TIM Slater was also on end in his first round match in pare open triples.
Australia lost to New Zealand11-8.
It will be looking to rebound against South Africa on Tuesday at 5.45pm (AEST).
Australia’s men fours, featuring Brett Wilkie and Matt Flapper play Falkland Islands in a section match on Tuesday at 8.45pm (AEST) and Malaysia on Wednesday at 3.45am (AEST).
