Narooma's worst performance for the year allowed the Whalers to go to the quarter break seven goals up. In the second quarter when Narooma's best player, Joe Nugent, was moved onto the ball the Lions started to win the ball and out-scored Eden. The Lions were still six goals down at half time scores being Eden 8.5=53 to Narooma 3.2=20.
In the final half Jessie Alaimo dominated. Although they tried hard, they made too many errors to win the game.
Best players for the Narooma Lions were Alaimo, Nugent, Luke Talty, Alexander Jones and Tony Bromage. The final scores were Eden 15.8=98 to Narooma 10.13=73.
The Lions only have one game left in the seniors this year against Tathra at Tathra this Saturday, the Lions are hoping for a win against last year’s top side.
The under 13's side also played at Eden against Merimbula, although well beaten by the top side in this age group the young Lions continue to improve each week. With a couple of bigger boys returning next week they could cause an upset in the finals. The best players in a very even team on Saturday were T.Hodge, B.Feledtk, L.Brennen, J.Harris, Z.Betts and R.Spurgeon. The Lions play Bega at Bega this Saturday.
The Lions had one win last Saturday when an undermanned Lions under 16's team travelled to Pambula to play against Pambula.
The Lions had seven players missing due to illness, but in a great game the Lions won by three points. The final score was Narooma 5.12=42 to Pambula 6.3=39.
In an interview with coach Mick Clothier after the game Clothier stated that this was the Lions best win for the year.
He singled out Charlie Stokes for his great effort, he said this was Stokes best game for the year and that he could be the wildcard come finals time. Zak Wilson, Jessa Sly, Nick Carter, Fred Hannebery and Sam Hodge all had great games.
The Lions now have won the minor premiership. With one game to go against Merimbula at Tathra this Saturday the Lions are looking forward to finals. Coach Clothier wants all players to make all training nights from now on to make shore the team is in top form for the finals.
