THE first thing I noticed at golf at Narooma on Thursday, after a week away, was how much greener everything was, very nice indeed. Driving past those front six holes the course looked a picture. What a great setting. The tees and fairways are much improved and would be even better if everyone took time to repair their divots. The greens were great to putt on but this week they are being cored and sanded so we will all have to cope with the extra challenge over the next couple of weeks.

Overall the slightly warmer weather and variable winds plus the odd shower at night have improved the state of the course. Additionally the green staff have been extra busy.
This time of year is pretty quiet with visitation down and quicker games assured. Both my games the past week were over in less than four hours. With holidays and summer not far away the golf course will be in top condition for the peak in our season for golf, whale watching and associated leisure pursuits.
Results for this week’s article are much improved compared with last weeks and again this reflects better weather, less wind and a calmer and friendlier course.
Last Thursday winners in A grade were Paul Stokes with 39 points beating Bob Ackling on a count back. Chris Fondum won B grade also with 39 points just ahead of Terry O'Callaghan and Troy Beecham. In C grade John Casswell pipped Bruce Day on a count back with 36 points.
Similar scores resulted on Saturday with Bob Knipler's 39 points and Michael Wuttke-Hayes's 40 points winning A and B grade respectively. John Melville played and punted with style and won C grade on a count back with 34 points.
As we feast on football for a few more weeks I would like to compliment the local teams.
Congratulations to the Narooma squad winning the AFL grand final and commiserations to the Narooma Devils going down to Bega in the grand final. Well done all of you, the town and region appreciate all the efforts you put in throughout 2014.
The weather is going to be fine I hope for next weekend as I have some friends coming down from Canberra and Jindabyne for some fun and games including golf at Narooma on Saturday.
Enjoy it all, good health and regards.

Narooma Golf Club members profile - Alan Mulhall
ALAN is married to Chris and has four kids, Kim, Stacey, David Christopher, all great kids and all great sportsmen, excelling in most sports, swimming was a specialised sport for the girls and the boys were both great rugby league players. David played for Narooma Devils, (playing 1st Grade at the age of 16 years old), The Auckland Warriors and Telouse in France. Alan is known to everyone as Mully.
He came to Narooma as police officer from the town of Tarcutta near Wagga Wagga, a legendary Rugby League player in his days, captain coached and played representative football in what is classed as the toughest group in NSW country football.
It was not long after he arrived here that he became involved in almost every sport in town. A successful president of Narooma Swimming Club in their golden years; president of Narooma Surf Lifesaving Club; president of Narooma Rugby League Football Club; president of the Narooma Junior Rugby League football Club; a member of the infamous Dalmeny Deviates Touch footy and fundraising team and much more.
Mully joined Narooma Golf Club in 1985 after arriving from the west, he plays today off a modest handicap of 8, and can be found hanging out in the Golf Club Pro Shop. While in the force he ran the Narooma Police and friend’s golf day successfully for about 10 years.
These days his number one passion is doing what we all love to do, following the kids at whatever they do and enjoying the time that he gets to spend with his five grand kids. Mully is your everyday good guy who fits into any of the community activities.
If you don’t know him, get into the Pro Shop and meet him, at the towns premier Club. Where? The Narooma Golf Club of course.
Cheers for now BB.
