The power came back on just as we were starting the drive down to Bega to finish the paper, luckily we got the call at about Tilba to turn around as the power was back on.
Speaking of indignity, it was shocking to hear that the race favourite Admire Rakti had died after the race and another horse injured in a freak accident after the race.
This shows how despite all their power, these horses can be so fragile and vulnerable and that racing can be a cruel industry.
Moving on, the amazing and epic effort of local Ben Stainer to walk to Sydney unsupplied was a great yarn for the front page.
Well done to Ben who was able to survive the trek and reconnect with his ancestors – perhaps all of us could benefit from such a mission, regardless of the side benefit of weight loss.
The council rates debate continues to dominate the letters page with people no doubt having a view on the potential bigger bills, but on the plus side the new Dalmeny playground was due to open today and residents near the new Hillcrest Avenue stairway have also held their own celebration.
Finally, don’t miss out on the BoatsAfloat Festival on this weekend and especially not the parade on Sunday morning – it’s well worth going down to boardwalk to check it out!
