‘Meet our Oyster Farmers’ is being held on Friday, November 21 from 5:30 to 7pm at the CWA Hall, 64 Queen Street, Moruya.
The evening is being hosted by local oyster farmers, Australia’s Oyster Coast and South East Local Land Services.
Jillian Keating, South East Local Land Services Coastal Industry Partnerships Officer, said the event was the perfect opportunity to learn more about the local oyster industry, their challenges and achievements.
“Participants will be treated to samples of locally-grown Sydney rock oysters prior to the screening of a new promotional video and documentaries,” Ms Keating said.
“The documentaries will showcase the work done to improve the environmental performance of the industry and health of the estuaries while the promotional video will showcase what is one of the world’s most pristine and environmentally sustainable oyster farming regions.”
Following the screening there will be Q and A session and ‘virtual tour’ of an oyster farm, which will provide a chance to learn from growers and their partners about local oyster production and catchment issues.
The event also includes a photographic exhibition, ‘Faces of Australia’s Oyster Coast’, by world-renowned photographer Heide Smith.
Bookings are not essential but those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
