This year, a bus unloaded 15 excited CanTeen teenagers, staff members Emily and Jodie, and Doctor Amanda, at the clubhouse on Friday night.
CanTeen is a national organisation supporting young people aged from12 to 24 who are living with cancer – either patients themselves or with family members who are suffering from cancer or who have been lost to the disease.
This year’s visitors, after a quick tea of delicious fish and chips from “The Inlet”, made their way to the Island View Resort where Alf and his team had arranged accommodation for the weekend.
With a good night’s sleep behind them and a cooked breakfast back at the clubhouse, their fishing weekend began with tuition from members and a free rod and reel to use.
Gathering bait was next on the agenda, pumping yabbies on the sand flats before fishing from there into Wagonga Inlet.
Snapper, tailor and bream were caught and released to swim another day.
After lunch Charlie on Wagonga Princess took all for a great cruise on the Inlet in stunning summer weather. Icecreams from Narooma Ice Creamery on the Flat followed before a well-deserved rest before dinner.
A delicious dinner was cooked by the ladies then a night walk along our fabulous boardwalk was enjoyed by our visitors.
Sunday morning dawned after another great night’s sleep at Island View, breakfast again at the clubhouse, and the gang boarded three boats to fish Wagonga Inlet.
Bill Falls from Calm Waters Fishing Charters, Terry Cassells, and Wally from Narooma Marina all donated their boats and time to take the kids fishing, show them our beautiful waterway and catch more fish. Trumpeter, snapper, bream, tailor and flathead were all caught and released.
After another lovely lunch, CanTeen weekend was over for another year. For those involved in catering and looking after the visitors, it was great to get to know and enjoy some time with these great kids.
Narooma Sport and Gamefishing club thanks all members who contributed and our wonderful sponsors who again, without hesitation, gave so generously to make this weekend visit a successful one.
