Twenty local businesses have sponsored a 2.7 metre shade umbrella each of which has been hand decorated by 20 well-known artists.
Each sponsor and their artist have decided the decoration theme for their umbrella and no two will be the same!
The works of art will go on display for the first time between 11am and 3pm on Australia Day on the lawns in front of the Bermagui Country Club.
To add to the excitement of the launch, Mark Tonelli, Bega Valley Australia Day Ambassador, will attend from around 1.30pm.
Mark, a former Olympian who represented Australia in the pool on the international scene for seven years, is also a renowned journalist, TV host, elite coach and motivational speaker.
The umbrellas will be auctioned at the Bermagui Seaside Fair on Saturday, March 14 with funds raised this year being donated by the Seaside Fair committee to Bermagui preschools.
Bermagui resident, Dennis Olmstead, brought the idea from Harbert in Michigan, USA.
“With so many talented and professional artists giving their time and expertise to this great fund raising event, we can’t go wrong!” Dennis said.
“In our first year we attracted buyers from as far as Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne who purchased these beautifully decorated umbrellas that will enhance the patio/barbecue area of any home or business.”
The umbrellas will be a highlight of the Seaside Fair street parade and then displayed on Dickinson Oval until the auction at 12.45pm, directly after the fair’s charity auction.
