Quarterdeck Chris Scroggy has just released his new line up of musical acts and what a line up with musicians coming from literally all over the world.
Asked what motivates him, Chris said “I want to bring world-class acts to Narooma.”
First there are some Aussie acts and even one local act.
Blues and Roots diva Lanie Lane performs on February 7 coming all the way to Narooma from her home in Victoria just to play the Quarterdeck gig before apparently heading off overseas.
The local Narooma area act is laid back Malumba, who play on February 22 and who will be launching their latest CD of instrumental music.
Then the international acts come thick and fast with Ash and Bloom from Canada on March 1, the Whitetop Mountaineers from Virginia, USA on March 12, Baka and Beyond from Africa and Britain on April 2, the Heartstring Quartet from Ireland on April 5 and finally Joe Filisko and Eric Noden from the USA on April 18.
Quarterdeck Chris, as he is known, says these were top class acts.
For example, Heartstrings features legendary guitarist Arty McGlynn and virtuoso fiddler Nollaig Casey, joined by Máire Ní Chathasaigh, “the doyenne of Irish harpers” and Britain’s finest flatpicking guitarist Chris Newman.
While Baka and Beyond are fitting in the Quarterdeck in-between headlining at the National Folk Festival.
As with all the acts, make sure to book early as there is limited space in the cosy atmosphere of the waterside Quarterdeck.
The restaurant is gaining a reputation among musicians as top spot to play music in an intimate setting and Quarterdeck Chris really looks after his visiting musos.
Stay tuned to the Narooma News for profiles on all the upcoming acts at the Quarterdeck.
Blues at the Quarterdeck
THiS Saturday, Chris Scroggy at the Quarterdeck is continuing his summer of music with the duo Sweet Lil Rider playing from 6.30pm on Saturday, January 31.
Johnny Cass and Jim Hilbun are Sweet Lil Rider. Their sound comes from Delta Blues and Rock'n'Roll. Sweet Lil Rider conjures up a brew of Swampy Voodoo inspired grooves from the Bayou. Sweet harmonies and crunchy steel guitar infuse a flavour of the American South. Sweet Lil Rider is all about simple grooves and soulful lyrics inspired by the blues legends that they love.
The two together are a formidable force in Australian Blues, picking up new riders along the way.
Lanie Lane at the ‘Deck’
TO continue with the Quarterdeck’s summer of music, proprietor Chris Scroggy has secured the award winning talent of Lanie Lane to play there on Saturday, February 7.
Lanie’s is an Australian blues-jazz singer-songwriter and guitarist.
Her first album ‘To the Horses’ went gold and she released her second album ‘Night Shade’ in October last year.
