EUROBODALLA Shire Council recently become aware that the popular Dalmeny campground could have 30 spots too many.
But rather than reducing the number of sites from 130 to 100, council has averted crises and through better allocation of sites, all the campers can be accommodated.
The issue was only identified when the new contractor did a check on the sites when they commenced their role last year.
A council spokesperson said under state government regulations, caravan parks and campgrounds were inspected so that they can be given provide approval to operate, and council owned campgrounds and caravan parks are inspected in the same way as privately owned sites.
“When the popular Dalmeny campground was inspected it identified that the number of camp sites needed to be reviewed,” they said.
“When looking at the best way to do this we were mindful that the solution should ensure that the campground continued to meet the needs of the same number of holiday makers who may have already booked sites for the peak period around Christmas and New Year next year.”
Council says it has identified a better way to allocate sites by improving the information the contractor asks for with group or large family bookings, and is are confident the contractor will be able to continue to accommodate the same number of people within the number of sites permitted, and meet all other conditions required.
“This is an excellent outcome as the campground’s visitors are an important economic contributor to neighbourhood and Narooma businesses at this busy time of the year,” the spokesperson said.
“We are currently contacting holiday makers who want to make a site booking for next year to ensure we meet their needs.”
