The tournament started with six keen ACT golfers, all them connected with plumbing businesses in the national capital, and now attracts about 20 starters.
The name comes from the businesses of the original members: H for Help Plumbing, A for Action Plumbing, and SPS for Southern Plumbing Supplies. Each put in a $10 donation to kick the tournament off.
Owners and directors of the companies - Darryl Bourke, Mark Read and Mark Beutler – were part of the original players, along with Help Plumbing employee (and trip organiser) Richard Stone, Les Calvert. However, only Darryl Bourke of the original sponsors could make the anniversary trip.
/ASPS is the first letter in there company names, only Darryl could make the 30 year weekend out of the only sponsors.
They play a stapleford points and 4 ball competition with prizes for each day for nearest the pins and individual and 4 ball winners. This year the golf club donated a golf bag and shirt towards the prizes.
Top prize went to John Freedman with a combined three-day score of 112pts, followed by Peter Venables 108pts and Tom Calvert 101pts.
The 4 ball winners with a combined score were the team of John Freedman and Hugh Petty with a score of 132pts, followed by Richard Stone and John Stephens with 131pts.
