The one bright spot for the players was that the club put on a barbecue at training on Tuesday to use up the defrosted meat.
The sponsor’s steak and snags were a big hit and a good night was enjoyed by players and their support staff.
The final Group 16 side was named on Monday night with 10 Moruya players selected in the 17-man squad.
Sharks’ secretary John Cornall said Group six’s side boasted a number of players with NRL experience including Drury Low, Bryce Gibbs and team captain Stuart Flanagan.
“This is a huge commitment by the club, and we wish all of the players an injury free campaign against the very strong Group Six outfit,” Cornall said.
The game is to be played at Mackay Park in Batemans Bay with a 7pm kick off this Friday.
A general bye is also called for the representative round.
The Sharks will have some fun at Moruya Bowling Club on Saturday night with a DJ providing entertainment with a night of music and dancing.
The evening kicks off at 7.30pm and the cover charge of $5 will go towards the players’ end of season function.
Moruya’s next home game will be against last year’s premiers, Bega Roosters, on May 10.
There will be four grades in action and it’s expected to be competitive between two traditional Group 16 rivals.
The Sharks remain undefeated and will be out to make up for their poor showing in the final series last year.
Bega has only lost one game in first grade to the enthusiastic Merimbula side and will be looking to knock the Sharks off the top spot of the ladder.
