HELLO from sunny Queensland where Janice and I are enjoying our late autumn and early winter holiday. We have more relatives in the Sunshine State than NSW and the ACT combined but come Wednesday, we will be barracking for "The Blues".

Mermaid Beach, where we are staying is a mix of millionaire mansions and 1960's style homes, units and apartment blocks of six stories or less. Unlike Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise to the north, this section of the Gold Coast still has a laid back feel about it, relaxed, assured and lots of young people and retirees enjoying all that our country provides. We have enjoyed pretty good weather with temperatures in the mid 20's with lots of southerlies. One great surf at Fingal last week put me in good shape for the weekend just gone.
I played golf last Thursday at the Burleigh Golf Club. It is a par 72 layout with a ridge line providing a number of elevated holes and / or greens to shoot at. The remainder wind around the inland waterways just west of the coast. A fine course with different grasses and greens to Narooma making it a challenge as usual in our game.
Searching the Internet I have made notes on Narooma and you have had days in the high teens, low twenties, for most of the past week plus a few light falls of rain. Much the same is on the cards for the coming week, with Thursday forecast to be a beautiful 21 degrees for golf.
Thursday Stableford Competition
With temperatures once again in the high teens the results in all three grades are good. Young Alan Butterworth was the winner in A grade, one shot better than Neil Towers and three ahead of Scott Kennedy. Ron Manly took out B grade with 41 points and was just one ahead of Wayne Houston and Allan Maddison. In C grade Geoff Broadfoot was victorious with 41 points and he was three shots clear of Stephen Paul and Peter Kape.
Saturday's Stableford Competition!
The results suggest fine weather and good golfing across the grades on Saturday, although a check of same shows a maximum temperature of only 16 and winds of 30 kmh, which would have required application and concentration to do well.
Paul Lefel did just what was required to win A grade once again with 38 points and he was being chased by William Stephenson and Rod Shepherd who both were a point behind. In B grade we had Lawrence Yeomans score a meritorious 44 points to just keep Frank Jakubowski at bay and they were well clear of the rest of the field. So too in C grade where Brian Brown also had 44 points to win easily from our hard working captain, Peter Jones, with 36 points.
In the Ladies the popular Jan Shelvin was the winner. Well done all of you.
Sunday's Bill Borlaise Mixed 4Ball Best Ball was won by Clive and Diana Williamson with 43 points on a count back Jim and Mary Young.
In closing this week I would like to wish you well and hope you all have a good one. I am about to drive to Currumbin for a surf and look forward to another round of golf at Burleigh later in the week.
Last year I, and a lot of friends from Potato Point, enjoyed State of Origin from the garage comforts of the Trunketabella Cafe / Bar, thanks to Mark and Nikki. It will be another memorable night of entertainment across the country and I will catch you all in Eurobodalla in winter.
"Go the Blues", good health and regards, Bill Baker.
