Also known as South Coast Regional Exhibition of Woodwork (SCREW), the event returned more than $2,000 to the Narooma Woodies and about the same to the Eurobodalla Woodcraft Group.
The “People’s Choice” award went to Eric Simes of the Eurobodalla Woodcraft Group for his wonderful working canoes.
The “Best in the Show” was awarded to Paul Healey of the Bega Woodcraft Group for his lidded container.
The raffle prizes went to Kim Stirling of Tilba, Ken Sullivan of Bega and Les Lowe of Eurobodalla.
Paul Healeys’ winning bowl was described as a masterful piece of work, made all the more exquisite by his choice of timber – blackheart sassafras.
The beautiful variations of light and shade, and the dark lines in Paul’s bowl are the result of spalting, caused by a fungi staining the wood.
Blackheart sassafras is pretty much a ‘lucky dip’, much sought after by woodworkers and always results in a unique piece.
