The town’s mums bringing their kids to her care just like their mums brought them and by all accounts she’s done a magnificent job.
She’s been director for 35 years starting just five years after the community, non-for-profit preschool started operation.
But Friday was her last day as she’s decided to retire and enjoy life at Mystery Bay and do some travelling.
She moved to area from Kiama having a purchased a property at Bermagui before hearing about the director position, back when there was a director and an assistant.
Now she has four staff members working at the preschool every day.
“I’m so lucky to have had such lovely families to work with and in all my years, I’ve never had an unpleasant or awkward moment,” she said at a party held in honour at the preschool last Wednesday.
“All the kids have been a pleasure to worth with too.
“A few years ago mothers starting coming who I had taught. There have been about half a dozen and lots of other family connections.”
What made the preschool great was it was a community organisation managed by a board of committed parents.
The new director Cathy Phipps takes over at the beginning of Term 3 and both the new and old director will be there when Narooma preschool celebrates its 40th birthday with a fair this October.
The preschool’s actual 40th anniversary was June 21 but the fair will be held October 24.
“We are currently looking for business to help support the fair. Hoping the community can help us with some prizes and donations for our auction and fundraisers,” committee member Amanda Bartulovich said.
“As we are non-for-profit, all money raised goes straight back into the community preschool. The money is used for the general development of the preschool, maintenance, and equipment.”
