Take for example for the whale story on the front page – the video we uploaded to Facebook and will later online is simply fantastic.
One local old timer said he remembers when whales spotted from the Narooma school were a big deal as there were just not that many around in the 1940s and 1950s.
The humpback whales and to a lesser extent the southern right whales have made an amazing recovery after nearly being hunted to extinction, the right whales were called “right” because they were the easiest to hunt and they still come in the closest.
Speaking of happy endings, the wonderful story of Magic the 22-year-old cat coming home also makes you feel good and show how neighbours look after each other in Narooma.
On a more serious note, the council yesterday voted unanimously to seek expressions of interest for the Narooma and Batemans Bay visitor information centres.
It will be really interesting to see if any private entity puts up its hand to run the centres, and if it is privatised whether the excellent service remains the same.
