And apparently Ricky even bought the popcorn.
Gail Page is heading to Narooma to appear on Sunday night at the last ever Great Southern Blues Festival and is really looking forward to performing again on her old stomping ground of the South Coast, NSW.
On a serious note, Gail has battled Bell’s palsy both in her private life and also while performing her music on stage.
Her condition was recognised by the judges on the television show and Ricky Martin was kind enough to take a particular interest.
Gail said he personally took her to his own kinesiologist for treatment for the condition that manifests itself as paralysis of the facial nerve causing muscular weakness in one side of the face.
And remarkably she said her condition has been a lot better ever since. They even went on a “date” to see a movie afterwards.
She was more than happy with reaching the top 12 in the television show.
It’s been a bit of whirlwind since The Voice. Gail and her manager have been busy booking gigs and there may even be a record deal next year.
“My aim was never to win but to rather get the exposure and lift my profile and it’s been great,” she said.
“I’ve been so busy and there are bookings, bookings, bookings for more gigs.”
Gail now lives in the South Australian outback with her husband in the small town of Wudinna, but she grew up on the South Coast attending high school at Oak Flats and then moving to Ulladulla.
She is really looking forward to coming back to Narooma where she had been camping and fishing in her younger days.
She said her act at the Narooma Blues was going to be “a bit of a surprise”.
“It will be good blues and good vocals and the band is really good.”
Joining her stage will be Hamish Stewart on drums, Sam Boyd on Hammond organ, Zoltan Budei on bass and Paul Burton on guitar.
“I’ve been gathering all my friends and contacts in my old towns and I reckon there are going to be stacks coming for our show,” she said.
Gail will perform at the Beaches Hotel at Thirroul in the week leading up to the Blues Festival.
