The bag ladies are having their end of year lunch at Rotary Park in Narooma on Friday, December 4 from 12 noon. All are welcome.
They are also planning a special “wellbeing” retreat at the Island View Beach Resort Narooma on November 14-15 to help with their fundraising efforts.
The bag ladies donate all their funds to the Asha Foundation, which works to improve the lives of women in Nepal.
Asha Foundation president Pauline Gleeson from Moruya will again join them when they hand over the proceeds received from funds of the bagging activity as well as that of the retreat.
In December 2014, they were delighted to hand over a cheque of $1,000 to the Asha Foundation.
“This year, we have already donated $1,200 to the Asha Foundation, and we will again give the Asha Foundation another cheque on December 4,” spokesperson Lorraine Schmaman said.
“We would love you to join us if you are able.”
Since starting these two activities in Narooma, there have been amazing synchronicities and spin-offs – one of which was the lead story in a recent edition of the Independent newspaper.
The story featured Sylvia Sim, a regular attendee of the retreats, who happened to speak to another lady there, and together realised they could further support girls in remote countries by supplying monthly sanitary products.
Sylvia told Pauline of this intention and together they are making it happen.
The Asha team that regularly visit Nepal are happy to pack these girls’ kits into their personal luggage when they visit in February 2016 and this way they avoid paying Nepalese tax on imported goods.
