A special ceremony was held on Mumbulla Mountain last week to launch the Biamanga and Gulaga National Parks plans of management. The Aboriginal boards of management for these co-managed parks presented their first plan of management to the National Parks and Wildlife Service, re-opened the Biamanga Cultural Area at Mumbulla Falls and had a great celebration. The plan will see Gulaga and Biamanga National Parks better managed to respect their cultural significance and scared sites. It formalises the protection, interpretation and recognition of the Yuin connection to country. Board of Management chairperson Iris White said that the plan was developed with input from many people and presents wonderful opportunities. “This Plan of Management is the tool that will collectively manage Gulaga and Biamanga National Parks for the next 20 years and make us all accountable for how we care for country,” Ms White said. “It is a unique arrangement with one Plan of Management for both parks allowing us to work on a significant part of the Yuin nation’s cultural landscape.”
