Local residents Barry and Bev Wells did the right thing and called WIRES rather than simply kill the snake or attempt to cut it free themselves.
Ms Cook snakes were really on the move this time of year but the best policy was to let the snakes move away of on their accord.
But if snakes did become trapped or otherwise a problem, WIRES should be contacted on 1300 094 737. Other wildlife help can also be reached by calling Wildlife Rescue South Coast on 0418 427 214.
Regarding fruit tree netting, Ms Cook said the white netting was more snake friendly that some kinds of black netting. All netting should also be securely pegged or wrapped, as once snakes entered the netting they could not go backward.
The black snake was removed from the netting and then totally cut free of the netting with the help of fellow local snake handlers Chris Lefel and Judy Beggs. It was then released in a suitable spot away from human habitation.
