Cr Leslight’s questions related to council’s financial reporting. He said he was concerned about transparency but was not “casting any aspersions on council staff”. Cr Neil Burnside accused Cr Leslight of not doing his job as a councillor correctly.
“This is another example if a total waste of time and energy perpetrated by a man who has failed to keep on top of his role as a councillor,” Cr Burnside said. “I believe councillor Leslight owes an apology to the finance staff who have wasted hours answering spurious allegations for no sound purpose. If this wasn’t casting aspersions on staff and this organisation, what was it?.”
Cr Leslight asked that a point of order be put against Cr Burnside and that he apologize for his comments. Mayor Lindsay Brown did not accept the point of order.
