Occupational Therapy students from the University of Canberra have been collaborating with Narooma Public School to create a reused plastic PET bottle greenhouse.
The school has partnered with Canberra University, volunteers from Narooma Little Land Care group, Narooma Community Garden and other community groups for this exciting project designed to engage the school and greater community.
1,500 PET bottles are needed for the green house - of the 1.25L and 2L variety – and so far just over 1000 have been donated or sourced, so if you have any clean bottles, drop them off at the school as soon as possible.
“This project creates an opportunity for groups and members of the community to get involved in creating the plastic bottle greenhouse. When the greenhouse is complete it will be a great meeting place for community members to enjoy gardening and meet other people,” said occupational therapy student, Top Suthayakhom.
The Recycled Bottle Green House project will be drawing on the knowledge and expertise of members of the community.
“We are hoping that the plastic bottle greenhouse will also encourage students and members of the community to further develop their interest and involvement in gardening, biodiversity, and sustainability,” Mr Suthayakhom said.
The project has already started with the bottle collection at school and will be reusing some frame work donated from a demolished shed on the school grounds and Narooma Golf Club.
For inquires about this project or to drop off your 1.25 & 2 litre PET bottles, you can contact the Narooma Public School directly. You can also watch the progress of the project by visiting Narooma Little Lake Land Care’s Facebook page for updates.
