Footpath needed
I agree with Patricia from Dalmeny: Mort St at the Princes highway is dangerous. I am an older citizen and regularly get the bus. I make sure I get off and on the bus in daylight, as it is so rough walking up to the paved footpath near the club. I hope the council will look into continuing a decent footpath all the way to the highway.

Big month for RSL
A big month is coming up for the Narooma RSL sub-Branch, with ANZAC Day fast approaching.
A pre-ANZAC Dinner will be held at Club Narooma on April 16 from 6.30 pm. Tickets are available from the club at $40 per person. Bookings are essential and limited to 80 people.
Our ANZAC dawn service will commence at 6am at the memorial at the club, followed by the traditional Gunfire Breakfast. The main service will start at 10.55am, with the march from the information centre on the flat to the memorial.
This year the sub-branch will sell crosses for $10. Each cross is white and adorned with a red poppy and an inscribed plate with information on who the cross is dedicated to.
A new garden of remembrance has been constructed for these crosses to be placed for all our remembrance ceremonies.
Once the service day has been completed, they will be removed and placed inside the sub-branch for safe keeping until the next service.
For more details contact president Paul Naylor or treasurer Jon King. We look forward to seeing as many as possible at our services as we give thanks to all who paid the supreme sacrifice and those who have since passed beyond the vale.

Narooma RSL sub-Branch president
What’s in a fishy name?
There have been unfortunate developments in language in the fishing world, both professional and recreational.
Many names are hurtful, unhealthy and demeaning to many of our multicultural communities; for instance, the term "Jewies" for Jewfish. Other states call these fish mulloway, and legislation is being drafted to ensure national acceptance of mulloway.
Equally, Luderick is to be legislated to replace blackfish, which has racist overtones. Republicans express strong objections to kingfish, queenfish and emperor. A committee of 15 is sitting to find better, non-offensive names by November 2017.
The name pigfish is hurtful to Jewish and Muslim communities. A committee of 17 will finalise new names by early 2018. Pacifists condemn grenadier, soldier crab, triggerfish and sergeant baker and demand they be renamed. Grunter and groper have nasty sexual overtones, however, staff are over-worked, so new names will not be promulgated for some time.
Smoked cod, with nicotine stains on the underside, shows the danger in consuming fish treated in this way. Atheists are displeased with angelfish, sole and devil-ray, and want spiritual themes removed. Likewise for monkfish and paternoster rig. The lactose Intolerant want butterfish removed from the marketplace.
Animal rights groups demand funds from fishing licences be diverted to make and fit dentures for gummy sharks. The groups have not explained how this is to be done, so a committee of 16 has been formed.
For those who continue to use offensive terms for fish, penalties will be severe. First offenders will face heavy fines, repeat offenders fines, plus confiscation of tackle. Serial offenders will have boats confiscated. CC cameras will be fitted in fishing clubs and bars in popular fishing towns such as Narooma and Bermagui. There will be no escape for offenders!
