The film crew arrived in Narooma on Sunday and using a drone filmed the local firefighters on the Narooma surf beach, while locals kids on Monday morning were filmed at a sausage sizzle at the fire station.
Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will soon launch a new recruitment campaign to fill firefighter ranks throughout regional NSW. Retained or on-call firefighters make up 50 per cent of FRNSW’s 7000 strong fire-fighting force, and there are openings for ‘new recruits’ throughout the state.
The FRNSW production crew will also this week film in Gundagai, Cootamundra, Temora, Yass and Goulburn.
“We’re very keen to reach out to men and women throughout regional NSW to let them know that they could be eligible to be trained as on-call firefighters,” said Acting Assistant Commissioner, Gerry Byrne.
“The training these men and women receive from FRNSW not only forms the basis of their firefighting training, they are skills that are a real value-add to any employer; and, towns throughout the state will benefit by having these skilled men and women living and working in their communities.”
Skills on-call firefighters can gain as a part of their firefighter training, may include: senior first aid, work health and safety training, heavy vehicle operations, chainsaw qualifications, rope and knot tying (cordage), rescue qualifications, hazardous materials (Hazmat) handling; just to name a few.
“We particularly want to hear form men and women with good daytime availability,” Acting Commissioner Gerry Byrne said.
“A challenge we face in many areas in NSW where we operate is people’s availability during the day; this campaign is reaching out to those people with good availability who may have never thought of being a firefighter. We don’t want super-humans, we want people with a reasonable level of fitness who meet our pre-entry criteria to really think about giving this rewarding vocation some serious thought.”
Golden Guitar winner, and Country Music Channel’s (CMC) 2016 Female Artist of the Year, Amber Lawrence is lending her award winning musical talent to the campaign’s 60-second ad. The ad will initially launch via social media in May before heading to TV screens.
