Council has allocated $40,000 to install a rock wall this financial year and the works will include access to the popular swimming area. Plans have been submitted to NSW Fisheries and Marine Parks seeking the necessary permits to allow commencement of work, a council spokesperson said.
Dalmeny resident Peter Bernard at the last council meeting raised concerns about the improvements to the swimming area, located directly off Mort Avenue opposite Tatiara Street and Thompson Parade.
“Council should be aware that this has been a popular swimming hole for as long as one of the oldest person I have spoken to recently,” he said. “I must agree it was an ideal spot for growing families of children and still remains so.”
He said he is concerned that a rock wall may not the most people-friendly structure and could prevent people from accessing the spot, but the Narooma News understands the improvement will include an access path and possibly a platform.
Mr Bernard is also concerned that the erosion would continue with or without the rock wall, and called on council to improve drainage off Mort Avenue.
A large tree limb recently fell down on a picnic table adjacent to the swimming spot, and had also been fenced off by council.
Another concern of local residents is the presence of a National Parks sign indicating 1080 fox baiting in the area, but this sign refers to baiting on the other side of the inlet in Eurobodalla National Park.
