Everyone is welcome at the meeting where a brief overview of Council’s 2016-17 plans and budget will be presented and there will be plenty of time for questions and to talk about council matters that are important to the community.
Mayor Lindsay Brown initiated the twice yearly community meetings last year and says that the meetings held last September were successful and a way to open up more opportunities for the community to engage with council.
“We had good attendance and lots of great questions from residents with some positive feedback and suggestions. There was a big focus on local roadworks, public toilets, and community facilities. It was a terrific opportunity to discuss what is important to our residents and we took everything on board and have been able to successfully answer and address many of the issues raised.”
The Narooma meeting is Monday, May 2, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the Narooma Golf Club.
Council is keen for residents to be aware that a separate information session will be held in Batemans Bay on Monday 16 May for the flying fox issue that is currently impacting residents. Clr Brown says the flying fox issue is too important and complex to be adequately covered during the general community meetings.
Meanwhile, residents interested in helping Eurobodalla council finalise its plans and budget for next year are invited to get involved by having their say about the operational plan and delivery program.
Both plans were approved by council on Tuesday for public exhibition and are now available on council’s website and at the three Eurobodalla libraries and the main office in Moruya.
Council’s Operational Plan 2016-17 shows the services, key projects, capital works and infrastructure maintenance that Council intends to deliver in the final year of its 2013-17 Delivery Program.
Both plans are combined in one document and incorporate the budget, capital works program, and how rates will change. The draft fees and charges for 2016-17 are also on exhibition for comment.
General Manager Dr Catherine Dale says Council is looking to the future with key projects including the development of an Integrated Economic Growth and Development Strategy, new international tourism opportunities, and a comprehensive program of business development workshops.
“Other important projects outlined in the plans include provision of a new waste cell and specialty waste centre at Surf Beach, more streetscaping works in Batemans Bay, and the delivery of over $54 million of capital and renewal works in 2016-17.
“This year we will continue to implement our Fit for the Future actions, building on the work we have already done to consolidate our financial position and deliver for our community,” Dr Dale said.
“The opportunity to help develop our next four-year delivery program for the upcoming council term and review the Community Strategic Plan ‘One Community’ will also be widely promoted to the community in the year ahead.”
Residents can comment on the plans until Tuesday 24 May. To make a submission, email council@esc.nsw.gov.au or write to The General Manager at PO Box 99, Moruya. There’s also an online feedback form at www.esc.nsw.gov.au
