The Group 16 Rugby League First Grade Narooma Devils took on the Bega Roosters at Bega last Sunday in a game that got away from the Devils early but was reeled in later to make it a thrilling but eventually frustrating game.

While the Roosters came out firing the Devils were slow out of the blocks and after twenty minutes were looking at a 20 point deficit after four quick tries by Bega.
The Devils settled down somewhat and looked certain to score their first try only to see the last pass to the winger intercepted by the Bega winger who ran 95 metres to make the score 26-0!
The Devils showed grit to come back with tries to Stephen Brown and Clint Wright to make the half-time score 26-12 to Bega.
The comeback continue after half-time with tries to Gus Wilton and Tim Crome and with three conversions overall by Ryan Norris the Devils were back at 26-22. The Devils were playing some great football and had Bega rattled.
A surprise ending wasn’t to be however, with Bega adding two more tries to take the game out of Narooma’s reach with the final score 38-22.
A mixed day for the Devils but they showed true commitment to stay in the match. A little more luck early and who knows what could have resulted.
Best for the Devils were Ninnum Parsons, Tim Crome, Scott Curry, Kane Ayers and Ryan Norris.
The Narooma She-Devils League Tag girls showed improved form to hold the highly talented Bega Chicks to a 12-all draw. Once again the girls had lots of reserves which really helps.
Bega led 4-0 early and finished the half well with two late tries to lead 12-nil. Narooma stuck to their guns and improved their defence and tries to Janaija Parsons and Lilly Bennett, both converted by Janaija saw them gain a draw.
Janaija, Shelby Johnson and Ashley Kelly had great games for the Devils while the Players’ player was Georgie Brown and the Coach’s Award went to Sherri Campbell. Some big games coming up for the Girls but they can beat anyone on their day.
The Devils Under 18s cemented second spot with an excellent 28-12 win over Bega. The Roosters had defeated the Devils 22-18 in the first round but Bega had no answer to the attacking skills of the boys who led 16 nil at half time after tries by Matt and Durramah Parsons and Marcus Lonsdale-Patten. Bega hit back immediately after the break but straight away Liam Sweeney replied with a try. Bega scored another try but on full time a second try by Matt Parsons sealed the match. Goal kickers were Clyde Parsons (2), Durramah Parsons and Gus Wilton.
Best for the young Devils were Matt Parsons, Marcus Lonsdale-Patten, Jordan Martin and Liam Sweeney. Players’ player was Liam Sweeney and the Coach’s Award went to Gus Wilton.
The Devils have a week off next week before travelling to Batemans Bay to tackle the Tigers on Sunday, July 7.
