It’s all part of an epic giving journey from Melbourne to Fraser Island that will see Variety – the Children’s Charity give out over $160,000 in grants to schools and organisations along the way.
Around 90 pre-1987 cars and support vehicles will roll into Narooma during late Sunday afternoon before enjoying dinner at the Narooma Golf Club, where they’ll don their disco shoes for a themed 70s night.
Local residents are encouraged to come down and meet the colourful characters and see their cars on the evening.
The cars and characters will then convene for breakfast at O’Briens Hotel on Monday before rolling out of town on their way to the next stop at Canberra at around 8am.
Presentations will take place in 12 different locations along the route to Fraser Island including: Warragul, Jindivick, Traralgon and Longwarry, just to name a few.
The kinds of presentations will vary – everything from iPads and books, to a sensory room upgrade and even an assistance dog.
More than 250 loud and proud entrants will take part in the event this year, dressed in full costume from start to finish – something that the school children they visit along the route really look forward to seeing.
This year the Bash will feature Smurfs, characters from Sesame Street, the Blues Brothers, The Flintstones and many more!
The Bash can inject up to $35,000 per town along the route, and these funds enable local community groups to do great work in improving town infrastructure or initiating community projects.
The Variety Bash is Australia’s largest and longest-running motoring event. Over the last 27 years, the Variety Bash has raised over $23 million for children in need and travelled over 105,000 kilometres across our great continent.
