The girls have collaborated with Operation Christmas Child to create shoeboxes filled with essential items to send to children in third world countries just in time for Christmas.
Boxes from Australia and New Zealand go to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Fiji, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
The girls can’t do it alone though, and are seeking items from the community to help fill the boxes.
“We need new clothes, toothbrushes, soap, toys, school items, something to love and something to play with,” said student Danielle Bunney, from Narooma.
Another keen Links to Learning participant Eliza Pemberton, also from Narooma, said; “These kids have very little, so deserve all that we can give them. We want to make a difference. We will also accept money that we can use towards postage.”
The girls are very excited about the project and eagerly anticipate the community’s willingness to help them create a difference, and offer some joy and hope to impoverished children and their families.
“It’s hard to save the world but if everyone does their bit in paying it forward the world could be a better place,” Operation Christmas Child coordinator Liz Fisher said.
“It is a delight to work with such passionate young people who have obviously embraced a simple but very effective project.”
Items can be dropped off at Narooma High School front office or can be picked up by Links to Learning facilitator Julia. For pick ups, please call 0439 013 652.
