Vehicle fire – Narooma Police and local fire brigade at 2am on Sunday, August 20 responded to reports of a vehicle on fire just off the Princes Highway at the northern turnoff into Dalmeny.

The blaze was extinguished but not before the vehicle was destroyed. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Narooma police on 4476 2044 or Crime Stoppers in 1800 333 000.
Parking crashes – There have been two car crashes in the parking lot at the pharmacy on the Narooma Flat in the past two weeks.
The latest incident saw a Subaru collide with a palm tree in the parking lot at 2.45pm on Wednesday, August 16. The week before another vehicle also lurched forward striking a glass window of the pharmacy.
Scam alert – An elderly Batemans Bay man has been scammed of more than $25,000. Someone claiming to represent a major telecommunications company contacted him on Monday, August 14. The caller asked the man help to “break a fraud ring”. Full story here
The victim was asked to give remote access to his computer. The caller then claimed to have deposited funds into one of the victim’s bank accounts and asked him to purchase credit cards from department stores. However, the caller had actually transferred funds between two of the victim’s own accounts.
A local department store contacted the police because staff were concerned about excessive purchases. Go to www.scamwatch.gov.au
Bermagui break-in – Narooma police are investigating a break and enter into a residential property in Bunga Street, Bermagui. The incident occurred sometime over the weekend of August 12-13 with entry gained by forcing a rear window. No persons were at home at the time. Police have forensically examined the scene.
Firearms amnesty – More than 6400 firearms that have been handed in for registration, sale or destruction across NSW during the first month of the National Firearms Amnesty, which continues until the end of September. There has been locally good community response in the Far South Coast Local Area Command.
