While celebrating their premiership-winning soccer season at the Grand Hotel in Bega, renowned journalist and TV personality Ray Martin joined in festivities.
“We don’t know why he was there, but he really joined in with the boys and it was a lot of fun,” Devils club secretary Kerryn Constable said.
“He even drank from the premiership cup!”
Meanwhile, there was a great turnout of around 100 people for the presentation night, with club awards handed out to senior first grade and reserves.
Constable was named clubperson of the year, while junior clubperson of the year went to Jim Campbell.
“He played in the under 14s and up in the 16s, as well as working as a ref. He also took the initiative to lead the team when the coach left mid-season – he is a very deserving recipient,” Constable said.
Players Player for first grade was Phil Chapman, while reserve grade players player was shared on points between Darcy Mullins and Joshua Becker.
A very special award was also presented on the night in memory of Dick Blacka. The inaugural Dick Blacka Memorial Award was presented to Daniel Blacka recognising all-round sportsmanship on and off the field. It is to become an annual award.
