Teacher Ben Woolnough is almost as excited as the 79 students, because as their year advisor he joins them for their rest of their high school career.
Many of the students participated in a familiarisation visit last year but even so being at a big new school could be daunting.
“There are two goals for the students in this first week – the first is to make a new friend from another primary school than what they went to,” Mr Woolnough said.
“The second is to find their way around school and work out where everything is and so far it’s been a really good transition for them.”
The school was particularly pleased to have attracted students from a wide geographic area from Bodalla to Bermagui and even three from Cobargo.
School also returned last week at Narooma Public School and the new school captains were announced as being Jack Westoll, Thomas Hodge, Piper Smith and Makayla Morris.
“They are my new leaders and they are already getting their teeth into it,” principal Paul Sweeney said.
The captains and older students would be no doubt by looking out for the 65 Kindergarten students that started their school career on Monday, although the youngsters did participate in the “Best Start” orientation program before school started.
Mr Sweeney said it was good number given that the school tries and set up three classes of around 20 students each.
The Kinder teachers are Jaci Murphy with the Possums, Amber Russell with the Stingrays and Jeannine Russack with the Dolphins.
Look out for photos of the new Kinders in next week’s paper and we hope to bring you school reports for the remainder of the year.
