The FAD from Yamba in northern NSW meanwhile broke free some weeks ago and was spotted over the weekend drifting 50km off Bermagui.
Officials from the FADS and Artificial Reefs Program of Fisheries NSW say the Yamba FAD has now headed back east out in the eddie, but hopefully will come back around in a week so they will be able to collect it.
FADs are known to break free quite often the Narooma device this year also broke free and drifted down all the way to Lakes Entrance before being recovered and reset at the Narooma location.
Narooma FAD location was 36 13.170’S, 150 17.450’E, approximately 14km east of Wagonga Inlet, in a depth of around 125m.
Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Club president Les Waldock reported back to Fisheries NSW that some huge dolphinfish or mahi mahi were caught in the Canberra Yellowfin Tuna Tournament over the weekend with some coming off Narooma FAD.
“We've all caught mahi mahi off the Narooma FAD. It is a great addition to the area,” Mr Waldock said.
And he is looking forward to the device being placed back off Narooma next spring.
