The Narooma Numnutz winter swimmers again did their favourite swim on Sunday swimming in through the sometimes treacherous Narooma bar.
There was not much tide happening so the 20 swimmers actually had to swim their way back to Bar Beach. There was also a fair bit of chop and wave action making the swim out along the northern breakwater interesting.
The Narooma swimmers were joined by two regulars from Wagga Wagga who visit every year and who acquitted themselves well for being inlanders. All made it through and back around safely for some much needed hot drinks supplied by drinks-man and record keeper Radio Ray Hirst.
Interestingly and unusually, the water temperature of 14 degrees matched the outside air temperature, also 14 degrees on what turned out to be an unseasonably warm day.
The boys and girls then retired to O’Briens Hotel for a delicious and warming chicken-and-vegetable soup supplied by the Raw Prawn Bistro.
The Numnutz swim every Sunday through the winter meeting at the far end of Bar Beach at 8.45am for the 9am swim. Sunday, August 13 has been deemed “Bring a Friend Day” where the swimmers are encouraged to bring a new swimmer for a more gentle float down the inlet, tide dependent.
For those closer to Bermagui, the Blue Balls meet every winter Sunday at 9am at the Blue Pool, and this year have an increasing female membership.
