A generous donation
The Narooma Vinnies Centre is so grateful to an anonymous donor that donated some truly top quality men's clothes. As well, without solicitation, this gentleman also gave the centre a most welcome cash donation. Vinnies gives back to the community as you know. To receive such a generous donation makes the role of the centre so much easier. Our volunteers are also wonderful. We were given some beautiful reproduction porcelain dolls in need of restoration. Thanks to one of our most creative volunteers those dolls are now beautifully dressed and ready to go to a loving owner.

Drop In Centre donation
Last week ladies from the Drop In Centre, gave a generous donation to the Narooma Men's Shed to help with the construction of their new shed. The Drop In Centre is run by ladies from the Narooma Uniting Church. They have many volunteers from the community, without whom they could not operate. It is a not-for-profit shop with all money raised, after paying overheads, going to local charities and some distant, such as Angel Flight. The Drop In Centre is also a place where folk can drop in, have a cuppa and a biscuit and chat. The centre welcomes all clean goods except for electrical and furniture. Regular organisations who support the centre are; the Moruya Hospital Auxiliary, Narooma area schools and fire stations, Animal Welfare League, Nardy House and the Men's Shed.
Narooma High School's Koori Cook-off
Narooma High School Students put their cooking hats on for a day of flavourful fun on Tuesday, August 13.
The Koori Cook-off at Narooma High was part of the 2019 NIADOC celebrations. Students collaborated and demonstrated strong teamwork skills whilst cooking up a storm. Meals were placed before two judges who were most impressed by the mushroom and Warrigal green risotto. Red Cross Aboriginal community engagement officer, Belinda Shea, said students enjoyed cooking, learning new recipes and having fun.
"It was inspiring to see the great teamwork; the food looked and tasted great," she said.
The event was organised through the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. Red Cross Narooma and Gadhu Health worked in close partnership with the high school to support the event. See photos here.
Soup and Slice Lunch
Please come along and have fun at the Wind-up Winter Warmer Soup and Slice lunch with a welcome to the Spring.
The lunch will be a fundraiser for the Samaritans Purse project, Operation Christmas Child. Enjoy home made soups and crusty bread and slices and support the sending of filled shoe boxes to underprivileged children in our South Pacific region. Your fun and colourful lunch (yes dress in colour), at a cost of $15 per head, will be held at St John's Church hall (the one with the Red Door), Page Street in Moruya, at 12.00 for 12.30 p.m. on Friday 30 August. Bring extra coins for a raffle - a beautiful quilt and a wonderful painting, and also bring an item for the 'Bring and Buy' table - the idea of a 'Bring and Buy' table - you bring something to sell and you buy something else from the table. A group based in Mossy Point have filled 240 shoe boxes for these children in very poor towns and villages overseas - boys and girls aged two to fourteen - children who have probably never received a gift in their lives.
It costs $10 for each box to get to each child. If you would like to know more about the lunch, more about the project, or just sponsor a box, please contact Liz Fisher, a2fisher@bigpond.net.au or phone 4471 7675.
